2023 TAT Day 3

Posted on August 12, 2023June 15, 2025 by WheeledGeezer

Tale from the trail:  Today we met Chuck. He was riding a BMW R1250 on a day ride out of his home state of Tennessee. He brought a tent along with him in case he decided to stay out longer. He was a machinist and  had risen in position over the years until he was a lead machinist at a factory. He laughingly said every person rises until they reach their level of incompetence and “I nailed that”. He retired early and suggested people should retire as early as possible. It sounded like he rides motorcycles a lot.  He had ridden a smaller BMW on the TAT and said he was uncomfortable riding it on the the downhill side of Cinnamon pass in Colorado. One thing he likes about the R1250 is the low center of gravity makes it easy to pick up after a fall.  He said he believes we are leaving early enough to make it through Colorado before the snow. We hope he is right. We planned our departure date for this trip with the idea of hitting the heat of Utah as late as possible while still being able to get through Colorado before the snow blocks the route.

Today we had to detour around a new bridge that was being built on our route.
