2023 TAT Day 4

Posted on August 12, 2023June 15, 2025 by WheeledGeezer

Tale from the trail

Today we met Tim and Mark in Creston NC when we stopped for food at a small roadside store.

We had seen several large sections of land covered with small, newly planted pine trees. They told us the trees we saw were Christmas trees privately owned by four local growers

They plant these trees by hand and let them grow for about ten years before they are cut and sold.  Every year as they are growing workers go to each tree and apply insecticide to kill the bugs and they shape each tree with a very long blade that is razor sharp to make sure their Christmas trees look perfect.

These growers have sold trees for the White House and several cities in Europe.

We stayed at a fabulous camp spot right along the trail. It had a creek we used to bathe and do laundry.
