If a Segway and a Unicycle had a baby it would have to look like one of these.
An electric unicycle is a fantastic machine for short commutes, errands, and mostly just riding for enjoyment. Learning to ride one is MUCH easier than learning to ride a traditional unicycle. With a traditional unicycle you have to control motion in all 360 degrees. The Segway lineage of these wonderful machines keeps the unit level and stable in the front to back orientation, so, on an electric unicycle you only have to balance side to side. You then lean left or right to turn, lean forward to accelerate, and lean back to stop. The foot platforms feel rock solid front to back. Stated another way, it goes where you lean. That’s it – much simpler than it looks. There are many kinds of electric unicycles now, including some with wide wheels and air suspension designed for off road use.
I have ridden more than 2000 miles on various models. While riding one I find my mind remains in the moment and other thoughts and concerns of the day disappear completely so it is also a therapy device, who knew?
I currently ride this inMotion V10F which is an excellent balance of performance and price (shown here with a cover on it).
The first one I owned was the ‘One E+’ made by Segway Ninebot (The first white one below). It is still probably the smoothest ride of those I have used but is missing the power and range available in newer models. Jack bought that one from me as his first EUC (electric unicycle). The others in this gallery are some that I have owned and then given to family members in an attempt to spread the contagious sport.
Our entire family now has someone riding these wheels.
We have also ridden Segway and Segway MiniPRO and while they are fun I find them more constraining. Just a different level of fun.
Check out one of the newest family members trying to ride a wheel like his Pas ( grandpa Tom ).
