Today we came off the trail into Tulsa OK to look for a new front tire for Jack’s bike because it had been worn down a significant amount during our days on asphalt. There were not many shops open because most motorcycle shops are closed ion Mondays ( since they are usually open both Saturday and Sunday ). We found Stoke Motorsports was open and learned from the owner, Eric, that the tire we were looking for would not be available from any shop in the area without special order. So, we will need to proceed with what we have. We believe we will be ok if we travel on dirt most of the time so we are hoping for limited pavement on our way to Colorado where we plan to install new tires we have purchased and sent ahead to a shop in Trinidad. We enjoyed visiting with Eric and learned he was a mechanic for a privateer racer in professional motocross racer when he was 19. He relocated his family to Oklahoma from California because he wanted freedom.
The day turned out to be very hot with temps around 104 all day and a high of 107. We loved the roads and open land of eastern Oklahoma.
For lunch we stopped in Newkirk OK and had a great visit with Bob and Faith Capone. They very much treated us like family and they seemed to really enjoy all the TAT riders who stop by on their way across the country.
